Orientation Recruitment & Logistics Coordinators (2)

    The UTSU is seeking two individuals for the recruitment and planning of the UTSU Orientation activities, as the logistic coordinators. These individuals will work to constructively develop a strategy and scheduling for the following Orientation events and their volunteers: parade, concert and after-party, as well as the UTSUfest Street Fair. Each Logistics Coordinator will be assigned a portfolio which requires that they works on 2 of the 4 events. The Logistic Coordinators will work with and report to the Orientation Coordinators, while working closely with other staff and executives of UTSU.

    • Familiarity with the objectives and operations of Students’ Unions 

    • Event planning and leadership experience

    • Superior organizational and administrative abilities. 

    • Financial planning and budgeting experience. 

    • Previous experience with U of T Orientation events is an asset.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Managing a portfolio that contains 2 out of 4 Orientation events

    • Recruitment of the Orientation Leaders (“Blue Crew”) as volunteers for Orientation

    • Working with OC to develop scheduling and coordination of volunteers, sponsors, and activities the day of the event

    Position:                    Graphic Designer

    Objective:                To design and produce unique and creative marketing materials for office and orientation 2013.

    Education:               Must be enrolled in a program at a post-secondary education institution (a graphic design program is preferred).

     

    Responsibilities:    Create artwork from concept to final for various events and publications;

                                        Create artwork from concept to final for various campaigns literature, such as brochures, flyers, posters and banners;

                                       Create artwork from concept to final for various promotional items, such as buttons, pens, highlighters and whistles;

                                       Create design elements for an organizational website;

                                       Create artwork for social media;

                                       Conduct preflight on projects: check for appropriate fonts, graphic quality, page layouts and correct formats for design elements;

                                       Back up and maintain archive files for future projects; and

                                       Create additional artwork as directed.

     

    Qualifications:         Must be currently enrolled in a program at a post-secondary education institution (a graphic design program is preferred);

    Excellent conceptual skills with a strong grasp of colour theory, typography, and principles of design, production;

    Demonstrated experience in designing text-heavy documents, including creatively presenting data;

    Ability to incorporate existing branding into project design;

    Expert knowledge of MacOS and Mac Hardware;

    Expert skills using Adobe CS5/6 (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop);

    An expert understanding of printing terms and formats: rich black, colour separation, spot & process colour, Pantone Matching System, bleed, RGB, CMYK, pixel image, vector graphic, pdf, eps, jpg, tiff, png, ai, etc;

    Strong organizational, time management, project management, and multi-tasking skills;

    Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines;

    Must be able to work collaboratively and positively respond to feedback;

    Strong communication skills;

Initiatives for the upcoming year will include the implementation, development and promotion of UTSU’s current services. These services include our International Student Identity Card (ISIC), photocopying and printing service, discounted TTC Metro Passes, Health and Dental Plan. Your role will also include creating new communications strategies (i.e., for our new website), assist with outreach through our new services kiosk, and assist with the preparation of Orientation.

     

    Duties will include, but are not limited to, overseeing the above initiatives and other Union priorities, record keeping, assisting with outreach, membership development, liaising with university community groups and generally assisting the Vice-President Internal & Services with his responsibilities.     Duties may include, but are not limited to, administrative or financial tasks, record keeping, liaising with university community clubs, levy-groups and administrations, editing documents, research on current academic issues and university polices, campaigns and events planning, taking minutes at Commission and Committee meetings, and generally assisting the Vice-President University Campus Life with his responsibilities. Successful candidates will be working with the Vice President Campus Life on his portfolio projects such as; online clubs trailer, Homecoming, Diversity Culture Show, Unity Ball, and other major events throughout the year. It is also expected that the Associate regularly attend Commission meetings and actively participate in supporting the Union’s organizational priorities.

    Further duties may include, but are not limited to, administrative or financial tasks, record keeping, coordinating and assisting with event set-ups and take downs, liaising with university community groups, taking minutes at Commission and Committee meetings, and generally assisting the VP External with their responsibilities.     Duties may include, but are not limited to, administrative or financial tasks, record keeping, liaising with university community groups and administrations, editing documents, research on current academic issues and university polices (e.g. investigation on illegal ancillary fees and more student representation in the Governing Council), campaigns and event planning (e.g. hosting town halls on food options on campus, a drop credit campaign and publishing an academic appeals guide), taking minutes at Commission and Committee meetings, and generally assisting the Vice-President University Affairs with her responsibilities.     DESCRIPTION:

    The primary role of the Sustainability Commissioner is to chair and coordinate the efforts of the Sustainability Commission of the UTSU. The Sustainability Commission is one of the five general members’ commissions that full-time students at the University of Toronto can get involved in. It works on sustainable priorities such as the Taskforce on Food Services campaign, lobbying the University and city for more sustainable practices and coordinating efforts with other environmentally focused groups on campus and coordinating gardening efforts. It is expected that the Commissioner regularly attend Commission meetings and actively participate in supporting the Union’s organizational priorities. 

     

    This may include, but is not limited to, completing research assignments on sustainable practices and university policies, lobbying university administrators, coalition building with on- and off-campus environmental organizations, coordinating campaigns such as the Taskforce on Food Services campaign, co-hosting events such as EcoFest and panel discussions, and recruiting and retaining volunteers for the Sustainability Commission. Work hours fluctuate throughout the year and do not necessarily correspond with regular office hours. The hiring committee will nominate at least two successful candidates and one will be appointed after a presentation to the May meeting of the Board of Directors.

    Assist with setup of service, parcelling food, assisting students when they arrive and the Food & Clothing Bank, and general duties.
