Health & Dental Plans
Dear Member,
As one of our many cost-saving experiences, your Students' Union offers Health and Dental benefits to help you with some health or dental related expenses that are not covered by OHIP.
Your Health and Dental Plan was established democratically by the students at UofT through referenda and, every year, your representatives and staff work to negotiate the best value possible. Students who already have coverage are allowed to withdraw from the plan at the beginning of the year, so that this service can be focused on those who need it.
Your Health and Dental Plan is a service of your Students' Union and is underwritten by Green Shield Canada, the only national not-for-profit benefits provider in the country, so you can be assured that students' interests are the only priority.
While we hope that this year will be worry free, if your health does falter, we are glad that your Health and Dental Plan will be there to support you. Many of your plan benefits support health promotion and illness prevention, such as annual dental cleanings and maintenance medication. Being proactive about your health and dental needs is as much a worthwhile investment in your future as your education is.
This year, please get familiar with the coverage details by reviewing the Benefit Booklet available for download below. Plan details are also outlined in this section of our website and Green Shield’s online Student Centre – www.greenshield.ca/studentcentre.

Note to new members, or members returning from a leave of absence/part-time studies:
The university provides U.T.S.U. with a membership list in early November. If you are a new member, or returning from a leave of absence or part-time studies, your account will not be active with Green Shield until the end of November. Coverage will be backdated to September 1 of the current year of studies. If you incur eligible expenses while waiting for the account to be set up, please keep the receipts for submission at the end of November. You can bring them into the U.T.S.U. office where we will arrange for delivery of the receipts by courier. Members waiting for account activation should not use a dentist who participates in Green Shield’s Student Dental Discount Network. You can search for participating dentists through the Green Shield Student Centre mentioned above.
